Arriving in Lisbon is always a mix of excitement and discovery, and this trip was no different. Daisy and I landed exactly on time, greeted by the unique setup of Lisbon Airport. If you’ve traveled in the U.S., the layout might feel familiar. It’s designed so arrivals walk through areas typically reserved for departing passengers, like duty-free shops. One feature that stood out was their excellent pet relief area, though Daisy, being her composed self, didn’t need to use it.
Early Morning Flights: Smooth Sailing with a Dog
Our journey started bright and early—4:30 AM to be exact—because flying with a dog means in-person check-ins are a must. Traveling business class with Daisy has its perks, like shorter lines for check-in and security. From arriving at the airport to clearing security, we were through in just 21 minutes—record time!
With Daisy snug in her carrier, we boarded our flight last to keep things calm. Flying within Europe on business class offers a bonus for travelers with pets: extra space. I always book seats where Daisy can sit comfortably under the middle seat, though on this flight, a design quirk had her under the seat in front of me.
Arrival in Lisbon: Uber Made Easy
Once we landed, I was impressed by how seamlessly Uber works at Lisbon Airport. You simply follow the signs to a designated car park, and your ride pulls up into a spot waiting for you. No confusion, no fuss—just a smooth transition into the city.
Exploring Lisbon with Daisy
We stayed at the Sheraton Hotel Lisbon, but I’ll save a full review for another post. Let’s just say the early check-in at 8:30 AM was a lifesaver. After settling in, Daisy and I embarked on our first adventure: a 24-hour tourist pass that covered multiple city tours.
The Old Town tour was a highlight, showcasing Lisbon’s charm with its narrow, cobblestone streets and historic landmarks. Daisy loved the ride, though I’d recommend caution if you’re prone to motion sickness—the bumpy roads and tight turns are all part of the experience.
Dining with Daisy
Returning to the Sheraton for lunch was an eye-opener. While the hotel is dog-friendly, their restaurant has a policy in place for the formal dining room. Dogs are welcome, but they must be carried when you walk through to your table. Once seated, Daisy was free to settle under the table, which worked perfectly.
The Sunday brunch buffet itself was a standout. Even though I’m not a buffet fan, this one converted me. The seafood selection alone was a feast for the senses. Pro tip: If you’re dining solo with a dog, plan ahead—either have someone to watch your pup or utilize a carrier for mobility.
Quick Hits: Tips for Lisbon Travelers
- Tours: The Old Town tour is a must, but plan extra time to hop off and explore. Unfortunately, our tight schedule didn’t allow for that.
- City Sightseeing: The 24-hour pass is great value, especially if you want to explore multiple attractions without worrying about individual tickets.
- Dog-Friendly Spots: Many outdoor areas welcome dogs, but always ask about policies for restaurants or indoor spaces.
Final Thoughts
Lisbon is as vibrant and welcoming as ever. With its mix of historic charm, modern convenience, and dog-friendly touches, it’s a destination Daisy and I will return to again and again. Whether you’re traveling with your furry companion or exploring solo, this city has something for everyone. Stay tuned for a full review of our stay at the Sheraton Hotel Lisbon—it’s worth the deep dive.
Until next time, happy travels from me and Crazy Daisy! 🐾✈️
