Where can my dog actually go?
Corsica is a yes with an asterisk. Twenty-two hotels across the south and Calvi take dogs, but the grand beach resorts mostly don't, so the dog-friendly island is the one in the maquis above the sea rather than the one on the sand. The best welcomes are small. Version Maquis Santa Manza above Bonifacio leaves a basket, bowl and waste bags. Casa Santini by the Porto-Vecchio marina seats dogs at the Roc Seven restaurant terrace and brings a water bowl. Hotel Genovese in the Bonifacio citadel takes dogs free and stays open all year, which almost nothing else here does.
The beaches are the thing to plan around. Porto-Vecchio regulates Palombaggia and Santa Giulia in summer, so from mid-June to the end of September leashed dogs get early morning and evening windows only. In spring and autumn the same beaches are relaxed. Around Bonifacio, Rondinara and Petit Sperone tolerate dogs on a lead out of season, and the Lavezzi islands ban them all year. In Calvi the town beach bans dogs in summer, so the pine forest behind it and the Bonifatu river forest are the walks.
Fees are modest. Free at Genovese and Centre Nautique, EUR 15 to EUR 25 at most, EUR 40 at the Calvi five-stars, EUR 50 at Le Don César. Almost everything closes from November to March, so this is a May, June, September and October island for a dog.

Before you go
What happens when you get there
- Summer beach hours
- Porto-Vecchio limits dogs on Palombaggia and Santa Giulia from mid-June to the end of September to early morning and evening windows, roughly 6am to 9.30am and 8pm to 10pm, on a lead. The rule is set by yearly decree, so check with the mairie before you go. Out of season the beaches are relaxed.
- Bonifacio beaches
- Rondinara and Petit Sperone tolerate leashed dogs out of season. The Lavezzi islands reserve bans dogs all year to protect nesting birds, so skip that boat trip.
- Calvi
- The town beach bans dogs in summer. The pine forest behind it is the everyday walk, and the Bonifatu forest 20 minutes inland has river pools and shaded paths for hot days.
- Ferry to Sardinia
- Bonifacio to Santa Teresa Gallura takes about 50 minutes with Moby or Ichnusa. Dogs pay around EUR 17, small dogs travel in a carrier, larger dogs on a lead with a muzzle, and all dogs stay on the outdoor decks. Book the pet ticket direct with the operator.
- Seasons
- Most hotels close from November to March. Hotel Genovese in Bonifacio is open all year and Hôtel Moderne in Porto-Vecchio most of it. Costa Salina and the U Paesolu domain run from late March or April to early November.
- Fees
- Free at Genovese and Centre Nautique. EUR 15 to EUR 25 at most. EUR 40 at La Villa Calvi and La Signoria. EUR 50 a day at Le Don César, which takes dogs up to 4 kg only.
- Best walks
- Bonifacio citadel to the Capo Pertusato lighthouse, the Pinarello coastal path to the Genoese tower, the Cavu river pools inland from Sainte-Lucie, the pine forest behind Calvi beach, and the Bonifatu forest.
- When to go
- May, June, September and October. The beaches are open to dogs, the hotels are open, and the heat is bearable. July and August mean beach curfews and closed doors at a few hotels.
