Jackson Hole is harder with a dog than the photos suggest, and the reason is the two parks. In Grand Teton a dog has to stay within 30 feet of a road, on a lead of six feet or less, and isn't allowed on any trail, pathway or beach. Yellowstone works the same way at 100 feet from roads, parking areas and campgrounds, with no boardwalks, hiking trails or thermal areas. The trail walking is in Bridger-Teton National Forest, which is where Grand Teton's own pet guidance sends people.
Our list here is short and we'd rather say so: four hotels, three in Jackson town and one in Teton Village. Nothing is listed yet in Wilson, in Moran, inside either park or in the Yellowstone gateway towns. What separates the four is where the dog is allowed to be. The Cloudveil on the Town Square welcomes dogs in the lobby and on the patio of The Bistro, its restaurant. Teton Mountain Lodge in Teton Village puts the fullest kit in the room, then keeps dogs out of every common area, which covers the pool and hot tubs, the spa, the restaurants and the fitness centre. Wyoming Inn and The Wort Hotel publish nothing beyond the room.
Fees and weight caps vary more than you'd expect across four hotels. The Cloudveil charges USD 150 per stay and takes dogs up to 100 lbs (about 45.4 kg), two per bedroom, which makes it the pick for a big dog in town. Teton Mountain Lodge charges USD 50 per day and publishes no weight limit. Wyoming Inn charges USD 50 per room, per pet, capped at USD 250 for stays of five nights or more, with each dog 40 lbs (about 18.1 kg) or under. The Wort takes dogs of 40 lbs or under in its Deluxe Guest Rooms only, at USD 45 for one dog or USD 75 for two plus a refundable USD 250 deposit. Confirm with Wyoming Inn and The Wort how their fee is charged when you book.
The trap is the room. All four hotels say a dog can't be left alone in it, and the dog can't come on a park trail, so a day's hiking in Grand Teton means daycare or one of you staying back. Wyoming Inn's front desk helps arrange daycare and The Cloudveil points guests to local options. Several well-known addresses don't take dogs at all: The Rusty Parrot Lodge and Spa is pet-free with service animals only, Spring Creek Ranch takes no pets because it sits on a 1,000 acre wildlife refuge, Rustic Inn Creekside and Parkway Inn both refuse pets with a USD 250 fine, and Jenny Lake Lodge inside Grand Teton doesn't permit them.

Before you go
What happens when you get there
- Grand Teton National Park
- Dogs are allowed in developed campgrounds, turnouts and picnic areas and on roads open to cars, within 30 feet of a roadway and on a lead of six feet or less. They aren't allowed on trails, on pathways including the multi-use pathway, on beaches, in buildings or in the backcountry, and they can't swim in park waters. No pets on boats except on Jackson Lake. In practice a dog sees this park from the car and the pull-offs.
- Yellowstone
- Pets are allowed only in developed areas and within 100 feet of roads, parking areas and campgrounds, in a car, in a crate or on a lead of six feet or less. Not on boardwalks, hiking trails, in the backcountry or in thermal areas, and never left unattended or tied up. There are no kennels in the park, though the park says the service exists in surrounding communities.
- Bridger-Teton National Forest
- This is where the trail walking is. Grand Teton's own pet guidance names the forest as the place where pets are allowed on trails and in the backcountry. We couldn't confirm the forest's lead rules or any winter wildlife closures, so check with the forest's official page or a ranger office before you set out.
- Dogs left in the room
- Not allowed at any of the four. Teton Mountain Lodge, The Cloudveil, Wyoming Inn and The Wort all say a dog can't be left unattended. Wyoming Inn's front desk helps arrange daycare and The Cloudveil points guests to local daycare, so plan park days around that.
- Weight limits
- The Cloudveil takes dogs up to 100 lbs (about 45.4 kg). Wyoming Inn and The Wort both cap at 40 lbs (about 18.1 kg). Teton Mountain Lodge publishes no weight limit.
- Fees
- USD 150 per stay at The Cloudveil. USD 50 per day at Teton Mountain Lodge. USD 50 per room, per pet at Wyoming Inn, capped at USD 250 for five nights or more. USD 45 for one dog or USD 75 for two at The Wort, plus a refundable USD 250 deposit. Ask Wyoming Inn and The Wort whether their fee is per night or per stay when you book.
- Wildlife
- Grand Teton asks visitors to stay at least 100 yards from bears and wolves and 25 yards from all other wildlife, and never to get between an adult animal and its young. Its pet rules add that pets may not frighten wildlife.
- Lifts and buses
- We have no confirmed dog rule for the Jackson Hole Aerial Tram, the Snow King gondola or the START bus. Check each operator's official page before you build a day around one.
- Best walks
- From town, The Cloudveil's own dog guide points guests to Cache Creek Trail, R Park and Snow King. Beyond that the trail walking is in Bridger-Teton National Forest, which surrounds Jackson and backs Teton Village, and it is worth checking the forest's lead rules before you go. Inside Grand Teton a walk means the turnouts, picnic areas and roadsides within 30 feet of the tarmac. The one exception to plan for is seasonal: from 1 November to 30 April, Teton Park Road is closed to cars and has a pet walking lane.
- When to go
- There's a dog reason to consider the cold months: from 1 November to 30 April the closed Teton Park Road has a pet walking lane, a rare stretch of Grand Teton set aside for walking a dog. In summer, afternoon storms are common in the park, so walk early. If lunch on The Bistro patio at The Cloudveil is the reason you're booking, ask the hotel whether the patio is open in the season you're coming.
