Where can my dog actually go?
Maastricht's old centre is a wall of no. Every Amrâth, every Vrijthof hotel, and the Kruisherenhotel, which recently stopped taking dogs, all refuse. Château Neercanne and Fitz Roy will feed your dog in the restaurant but won't let it sleep over. Seven hotels made the cut, and they're mostly on the edges, which turns out to suit a dog.
Vaeshartelt is the find. A royal estate in its own park north of the city, dogs allowed in the restaurant, bar and breakfast, a cushion and a snack on arrival. Van der Valk lets dogs into the bar and brasserie and serves you breakfast in the lobby with the dog. NH Maastricht fits its dog rooms with a basket and bowls.
For walks, the Maas riverbank runs the length of the city, Stadspark Maastricht sits just over the Sint Servaas bridge, and the Sint-Pietersberg caves and hill are a short drive for something wilder.
