Beaches

Unorganised sand and the sea are open to her under law 4830/2021, on a lead whenever she's out of the water, and that's most of the coast here: the coves around Agia Irini, the rocky stretches between Naoussa and Santa Maria away from the beach-bar frontages, the small east-coast bays either side of Molos, and Apantima and Livadia on Antiparos. Piperi Beach in front of Avant Mar is published by the hotel as somewhere dogs can play. On an organised beach, one with a licensed sunbed and concession operation, it's the operator's posted sign that decides, and Logaras, Chryssi Akti, Pounta and Parasporos are all organised in season, so ask at the kiosk rather than assume. Blue Flag certification carries a no-dogs condition on the certified section, but all four Paros flags, at Livadia, Logaras, Marpissa on Chryssi Akti and Pounta, are marked withdrawn on the 2026 list and Antiparos has never appeared on it, so there's nothing certified to work around here this season. Worth a look at the new list each May, because those four are the likeliest to come back.

Hot stone

This is the real welfare issue on Paros. It's a marble island and Parikia, Naoussa and Lefkes are paved in polished stone that holds heat well past sunset from late June to early September. Put the back of your hand on the stone for seven seconds before you walk her, and move exercise to before 09.00 and after 20.00 in July and August. A RIB deck on a boat trip is just as hot as the path.

Weight limits and fees

The Rooster and The Beach House cap at 20 kg. Mr and Mrs White Paros and High Mill Parikia cap at 15 kg and charge nothing at all. Andronis Minois caps at 10 kg. Avant Mar and Kouros Village Antiparos publish neither a cap nor a fee. Nobody on the island publishes a yes above 20 kg, so a very large dog needs a direct written answer before booking.

Getting here by sea

Parikia is a main Cyclades hub, roughly four hours from Piraeus on a conventional Blue Star ferry and about three on a highspeed. Blue Star issues a free pet ticket, which has to be booked in advance with her health book number, marking number and size, and can't be bought on board. Highspeed ships take pets only in a small carrier up to 10 kg, so a dog over ten kilos has to travel on the conventional ferry. On board, pets aren't allowed in cabins other than the designated pet cabins, or in bars, restaurants and indoor public areas, and on the open deck she needs a muzzle, a lead and someone with her. Large dogs can't be in the enclosed passenger areas or enclosed car decks at all. SeaJets, Fast Ferries and Golden Star also run the route and their own terms weren't verifiable, so confirm with them directly.

The Antiparos crossing

Antiparos sits less than two kilometres off the south-west coast, with a car ferry running all day from Pounta, about 5 kilometres south of Parikia, and a passenger boat from Parikia in season. The crossing takes minutes. No published pet policy for the Pounta shuttle could be found, so a dog on a lead in the car or on the open deck is normal practice rather than a published rule, and it's worth confirming at the quay.

Vets

Two named practices, both in Parikia. Vet Center of Paros on 22840 69914, and Lamprou Antonios S. at Agia Eleni on 22840 23301. Nothing named was found in Naoussa, Lefkes, Piso Livadi or anywhere on Antiparos, so an Antiparos guest is a ferry crossing plus a 20-minute drive from help. Ask your hotel which vet they call out of hours before you need to know.

Best walks

The Byzantine Road, the old marble-paved route from Lefkes down towards Prodromos, is the best dog walk on the island and also the worst possible midday choice, because shade on it is patchy and there's no water on the route. Do it early, carry water, and treat it as a shoulder-season walk. Naoussa's old fishing port is the best evening, with the tavernas putting tables straight onto the quay, though it's narrow and full of cats after about 20.00 in August, so 19.00 suits a nervous dog better than 21.30. Parikia's waterfront and the lanes behind the Ekatontapiliani church are flatter and quieter. On the coast, the dunes at Livadia on Antiparos run straight off the edge of The Rooster, Apantima is a small cove you can have to yourself, and the road round the bay from Naoussa leads to Kolymbithres and its wind-carved rocks.

When to go

Late April to early June, or late September to mid October. That gives sea warm enough to swim in, stone cool enough to walk on, and beaches with the concessions not yet up or already down, which removes the organised-beach question entirely. July and August are the months to be careful with. The marble paving in Parikia, Naoussa and Lefkes radiates heat long after sunset and the Byzantine Road is not a midday walk in summer at any age. The season runs roughly late April to mid October and most of these hotels close for winter without publishing exact dates. Kouros Village on Antiparos says it runs year round with off-season rates in April, May and October, which makes it the one real shoulder option, and Avant Mar's Matsuhisa restaurant only operates mid-June to mid-September.
