Where can my dog actually go?

San Sebastian is a dog city for eight months of the year. From 1 October to 30 May dogs run on La Concha, Ondarreta and Zurriola, and the town is full of them. From June to September every beach is closed to dogs and the hotels get stricter. Six hotels made the catalogue out of eighteen, which tells you how the luxury end feels about it.

The two with a real welcome are the Maria Cristina, whose Pet Welcome Kit includes a bed, mat and bowls, and ILUNION in the Antiguo, which gives a kit with a toy and treats and takes dogs of any size. Nobu on the bay, Catalonia Donosti with its bowls, Antik with no weight limit, and INNSiDE Orly 100 metres from La Concha round it out.

Akelarre, Arima, Londres y de Inglaterra, Villa Favorita and Lasala Plaza all refuse, and Barceló Costa Vasca has dropped the group dog programme.

What happens when you get there

Beach season
Dogs are banned on La Concha, Ondarreta and Zurriola from 1 June to 30 September. From 1 October to 30 May they're allowed and the beaches fill with dogs.
Monte Igueldo
Dogs ride the funicular on a lead for an extra fare and can walk the park at the top. Monte Urgull paths allow off-lead within set hours.
Parks
Alderdi Eder gardens, Cristina Enea Park and the Miramar Palace gardens all take leashed dogs. The Guau dog park in Amara is fenced and off-lead.
Pintxos bars
Terrace seating in the Old Town is generally fine with a dog. Inside the bars it depends on the owner.
