Where can my dog actually go?

Piedmont splits neatly in two for a dog. Turin is the easy half, a city of arcades and river paths with Parco del Valentino on the Po, and eleven four- and five-star hotels on our list that take dogs on clear published terms. The Langhe and Roero are the reason to come, with vineyard lanes, hazelnut groves and the Barolo Trail, which is dog friendly on a lead. Add two hotels on Lake Orta and there are nineteen on the list in all.

The access stories are out in the hills, not in the city. Il Boscareto at Serralunga d'Alba lets dogs into its rooms and public areas, everywhere except the spa, which is the most open rule of any luxury hotel in the Langhe. Whether that includes La Rei restaurant and the bar isn't published, so ask. Casa di Langa at Cerretto Langhe gives every room its own door onto the garden, so there are no lifts or corridors, and hands over a welcome kit, bowls and walking routes that start from the door. Relais San Maurizio at Santo Stefano Belbo puts dogs in rooms and suites with private gardens and lets them walk in the park. In Turin, dogs stay in the rooms and no hotel publishes restaurant access.

Fees in Turin are gentle. Grand Hotel Sitea and the Concord charge nothing, but take one small dog up to 10 kg. Hotel Indigo charges EUR 20 a stay, the Hilton EUR 25 a stay, Turin Palace and Principi di Piemonte EUR 30 a stay and Starhotels Majestic EUR 40 a stay for up to two pets. The two NH Collection hotels are the dearest in the city at EUR 35 per dog a night. In the hills, Il Boscareto and Villa d'Amelia charge EUR 25 per dog a night, Castello di Guarene, Calissano and Relais San Maurizio EUR 30, and Casa di Langa EUR 50 per dog a night with a 20 kg limit. For a big dog, Turin Palace takes one of any size for a flat EUR 30 a stay, opposite Porta Nuova station. In the Langhe, Castello di Guarene takes dogs of any size, and Villa d'Amelia takes two dogs up to 35 kg each.

Two things to know before you plan. Monferrato has nothing on our list, because none of its resorts publish a dog policy. And many of the boutique hotels around La Morra only take dogs on request, with no terms published, so they aren't here either. Much of the region's dog-friendly reputation comes from farm stays and B&Bs rather than its luxury hotels.

What happens when you get there

Trams, buses and the metro
GTT, which runs Turin's buses, trams and metro, carries dogs with no fee, but they need a lead and a muzzle, or a carrier. Dogs can be refused when it's packed, and on the metro keep your dog clear of the doors while the closing signal sounds. Carry a muzzle even for a calm dog.
Parks in Turin
Parco del Valentino on the Po is the big one, with the Murazzi riverside walk leading to it. The Giardini Reali behind Palazzo Reale are central, and the Giardino Sambuy sits right in front of Porta Nuova station.
Weight limits
Grand Hotel Sitea and the Concord take small dogs up to 10 kg. Casa di Langa caps at 20 kg and the two NH Collection hotels at 25 kg. Principi di Piemonte gives a limit of 20 to 25 kg depending on where you look, so confirm it. The Hilton takes dogs up to 34 kg and Villa d'Amelia up to 35 kg. Turin Palace, Castello di Guarene and Relais San Maurizio take any size.
Two dogs
The Hilton, the AC Hotel, both NH Collection hotels and Starhotels Majestic take two in Turin. In the Langhe, Il Boscareto and Villa d'Amelia take two. Principi di Piemonte, Turin Palace, Sitea and the Concord take one.
Wine tastings
Casa di Langa says tasting with your dog is now standard practice at many Langhe estates, with outdoor spaces set aside. Ask each winery before you go, particularly whether your dog can join the cellar tour or only the terrace tasting.
Truffle season
The Alba International White Truffle Fair runs from 10 October to 6 December 2026. Whether dogs can go into the indoor market isn't published, so ask before you go. Truffle hunts use the hunter's own trained dog, so check with the operator whether yours can come along on a lead.
Getting there
Turin Airport at Caselle has flights from London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Bristol and Dublin, many of them seasonal, so check this year's schedules. For Lake Orta, Milan Malpensa is nearer. With a dog, the practical route from the UK is driving via the Channel and the Fréjus or Mont Blanc tunnels, and from Ireland it's the ferry to France and then the drive.
Heat and closures
Turin and the lower Langhe get hot in July and August, so walk early and late. Castello di Guarene closes from 8 January to 9 February, Il Boscareto does works in January and February, and Villa d'Amelia's restaurant, spa and pool close from 8 to 26 December.

In Turin, Parco del Valentino and the Murazzi along the Po, the Giardini Reali behind Palazzo Reale, and the Parco Archeologico around Porta Palatina. In the Langhe, the Barolo Trail on a lead, the Big Bench (Panchina Gigante) hikes of the Alta Langa, the vineyard lanes on the Serralunga ridge and the hazelnut groves round Benevello and Santo Stefano Belbo. In the Roero, the sandy woodland lanes from the edge of Guarene. At Lake Orta, the wooded Sacro Monte above Orta San Giulio and the lakeside path at Pettenasco.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are best for walking with a dog, with September and October bringing the harvest and the Alba White Truffle Fair from 10 October to 6 December 2026. July and August are hot in Turin and the lower Langhe, so plan walks for early morning and evening. Winter is quiet but several of the Langhe hotels close or run works in January and February.

Is the Langhe dog friendly?+

Yes, with walking to match. Six luxury hotels on our list take dogs, the Barolo Trail is dog friendly on a lead, and many wine estates now have outdoor space for tasting with a dog. Many La Morra boutique hotels only take dogs on request with no published terms, so our list leans on Serralunga, Cerretto Langhe, Santo Stefano Belbo, Benevello, Guarene and Alba.

How much do Turin hotels charge for dogs?+

Nothing at Grand Hotel Sitea and the Concord, for dogs up to 10 kg. EUR 20 a stay at Hotel Indigo, EUR 25 at the Hilton, EUR 30 at Turin Palace and Principi di Piemonte, and EUR 40 at Starhotels Majestic. Per night, EUR 15 at Hotel Victoria and the AC Hotel (capped at EUR 120 a stay), and EUR 35 at both NH Collection hotels.

Where should I stay in Turin with a big dog?+

Turin Palace takes one dog of any size for EUR 30 a stay, right opposite Porta Nuova. The Hilton takes dogs up to 34 kg and the AC Hotel two dogs up to 30 kg each. Avoid Sitea and the Concord, which cap at 10 kg.

Which Langhe hotels let dogs into the public areas?+

Il Boscareto allows dogs in the rooms and public areas, everywhere except the spa. Whether that includes the restaurant and bar isn't published, so ask. Relais San Maurizio opens its park to dogs, and Casa di Langa's rooms open straight onto the garden.

Can I take my dog to a wine tasting in Piedmont?+

Often, yes. Many Langhe estates now set aside outdoor space for tasting with a dog, but it's estate by estate, so ask each winery whether your dog can join the tasting on the terrace and the cellar tour.

Can I bring my dog to the Alba truffle fair?+

The fair runs from 10 October to 6 December 2026. Whether dogs can go into the indoor market isn't published, so check before you go. Alba itself is easy with a dog, and Hotel Calissano takes dogs for EUR 30 a night.

Are there dog-friendly hotels on Lake Orta?+

Two on our list. Hotel Giardinetto at Pettenasco takes dogs for EUR 10 a night on the lakeside path. Villa Crespi at Orta San Giulio welcomes dogs in selected rooms but gives its fee and rules on request, so contact the hotel before booking.
