“A 17th-century Grade II listed townhouse on a cobbled lane between Queen Square and the Assembly Rooms, run as a small independent hotel with 13 rooms and a hot tub in the courtyard. It is the most central address on this list and the most personal. It suits people who want a small, owner-run base rather than a big hotel. Dogs get a bed, bowls and a freshly cooked sausage at breakfast, which is a level of trouble most hotels this size do not go to.
