“A castle hotel in its own estate on the southern edge of Edinburgh, near Dalkeith. Up to two dogs can stay in most room types, from classic doubles to the suites, and dogs get their own afternoon tea. It suits anyone who wants a country stay with a dog and an easy drive or bus into the city.

Why it's in the collection

The hotel sits in its own 54-acre estate, so the first walk starts at the door. Dalkeith Country Park is a couple of kilometres east and the River North Esk paths run through Lasswade.

Dogs stay in classic and superior doubles and twins, the four-poster and the one-bedroom, two-bedroom and junior suites. They can join you in the Library Bar, the lounge and the conservatory, and doggy afternoon tea is served in the Arniston Room or the Peacock Ante Room. The estate and gardens are open for walks. Ask before taking your dog into the brasserie.

Where we can't yet confirm a detail first-hand, we mark it plainly rather than guess. A Daisy stay will close every gap.
