Sofitel Munich Bayerpost

Luxe train-adjacent stay with spectacular rooms and honest dog welcome

Daisy's Verdict
Would Daisy stay again? Yes, without hesitation.
This is where the Sofitel wins: room quality is top-tier, the dining (DÉLiCE La Brasserie) is genuinely fine dining, and turndown service is thoughtful and personal. Daisy is accepted everywhere except the spa, but she's not the star. The bellman was helpful moving luggage, but check-in felt impersonal, and despite the hotel partnering with LILA LOVES IT for dog amenities, the welcome kit never appeared. At EUR 35 per night, you're paying for the room and the location, not for a dog celebration. The hotel feels corporate-busy rather than boutique-cozy. Worth it if you're arriving by train and want genuine luxury minus the fuss.

The hotel

Luxe train-adjacent stay with spectacular rooms and honest dog welcome

Five-star former Royal Bavarian Post Office attached to Munich Hauptbahnhof, with 396 rooms across eight floors. The location is unbeatable for train arrivals, the dining is fine-dining quality with French brasserie service, and the spa is the kind of place you'll be annoyed about if you don't get to use it. Room upgrades and turndown service are genuinely luxurious. Daisy is welcome throughout but accepted rather than celebrated.

The carpet in the suite (soft for her paws), the turndown service after the vet visit (slippers, tea, popcorn), and the restaurant staff treating her like an actual guest rather than a problem.

What we noticed
Arrival

Solo arrival from Austria with a 32kg suitcase, Daisy's overhead-bin-sized suitcase, my handbag, Daisy's carrier and Daisy. Construction around Hauptbahnhof made the approach awkward. Saved by a bellman who came straight out, took everything, and let me walk in with just Daisy. Check-in was busy (1-2pm) and Daisy got no particular welcome at reception. No treat, no fuss. Standard check-in.

The room

Upgraded from a standard king to the next category up. Room felt like a Celebrity Cruises butler suite, every detail considered. Carpet throughout, which Daisy loved. Pillow menu. Huge bed, excellent bedding. Bathroom on the smaller side for a five-star. No welcome drink or hospitality amenity in the room on arrival. The hotel partners with LILA LOVES IT for a dog pillow and box of surprises, but they didn't appear. The standout was turndown service after a vet appointment: slippers placed by the bed, chamomile tea laid out, water and popcorn ready for a movie night. That level of service sticks with you.

Daisy's Note

Ask about room types with larger bathrooms. The standard king bathroom is compact for a five-star.

Worth knowing

Construction noise around the station entrance. Check-in area was busy and impersonal. Corporate-busy rather than boutique-cozy. Daisy is allowed everywhere except the spa, but staff don't go out of their way to engage with her. The hotel feels like it has accepted dogs as a revenue stream but isn't celebrating them.

Walkability

Attached to Munich Hauptbahnhof, which is the killer feature for train arrivals. Construction immediately outside makes the first 50 metres awkward with luggage and a dog. Vet appointment (Filu Vet) was about a 45-minute walk.

Daisy's Note

Daisy was accepted but not celebrated.

Dining

DELiCE La Brasserie (in-hotel)

Dogs welcome. Daisy was given a proper posh water bowl. Quality on par with standalone fine dining, mushrooms (rich, earthy), cured ham so good Daisy and I shared, amuse-bouche warm broth was incredible.
