“A 17th century palazzo on the main square of Mdina and the only hotel inside the walled city, with 17 suites and a rooftop restaurant looking out over most of Malta. Evenings here are the point, because the day trippers leave and the streets empty. Mdina is a restricted traffic zone, so arrivals are done on foot from the gate. Small dogs are accepted, arranged directly with the hotel.

You walk straight out onto the Mdina bastion walk with its view across to Mosta and the sea, and Howard Gardens on the edge of Rabat is about ten minutes downhill from the main gate.
