Arriving in Denmark from outside the EU: what happens at the airport

Land at a Danish Travellers' Point of Entry, because a non-EU dog can only be cleared there, and go to the red 'goods to declare' channel. The authorities do the document and identity check on arrival. No booking for a pet flying with you. Keep the original stamped EU health certificate, the microchip record and the rabies certificate in your hand luggage, not the hold. No tapeworm rule for Denmark.

Leaving Great Britain with your dog: the certificate and the airlines

Your dog needs an Animal Health Certificate from an Official Vet, issued within 10 days of entering the EU. It then covers 6 months of travel in the EU and 6 months to come home. Regular practices charge £150 to £300 for it. Independent AHC vets who do nothing else charge from £69, often meeting you in a car park in the evening. Only a handful of airlines take a dog in the cabin out of the UK, and three of those refuse Gatwick. No airline brings a pet dog back into the UK in the cabin, so plan the return by LeShuttle or ferry before you book anything.

How to get the certificate for under £100 and which airlines fly dogs out · How to get your dog back into the UK

Not listed below because their own pages only state the inbound ban, so the outbound leg is unconfirmed. Call before booking: Helvetic Airways, Discover Airlines, ASL Airlines France, Amelia, Air Canada, Air France, ITA Airways, airBaltic, Chalair Aviation, Marabu, Air Dolomiti, Bulgaria Air, Iberia, Lufthansa, LOT Polish Airlines, SWISS, Binter Canarias, Austrian Airlines, Smartwings (formerly Czech Airlines), TAROM, Twin Jet, Turkish Airlines, TUI fly Deutschland, Corendon Airlines.

No pet-friendly airlines found

We didn’t find any of our verified pet-friendly carriers flying LHR → CPH non-stop. There are one-stop options below where both legs take a dog in the cabin.

No direct option, but you can get there in two legs

Every airline below takes a dog in the cabin on that leg, and each leg has been checked against the same country rules as a direct flight. Two legs means two check-ins and a dog who has to cope with the change, so it’s the fallback, not the first choice. If you leave the airside area at the stop, that country’s entry rules apply to your dog too.

  • LHR → AMS → CPHKLM Royal Dutch Airlines the whole way, one booking

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flies both legs, so your dog goes on a single booking. Add the pet when you book and check there’s cabin space on both flights.

Note: Takes dogs in the cabin out of the UK: any UK airport, but never back in · No pets in cabin in Premium Comfort or Business on an intercontinental route · Book at least 48 hours before departure, and acceptance is not guaranteed
