Where can my dog actually go?
Geneva is one of the easiest luxury cities in Europe to do with a dog, and the palaces compete on it. Thirty hotels on our list take dogs. The Hôtel d'Angleterre has a pet concierge who walks your dog along the lake, plus a basket, treats and toys in the room. Beau-Rivage gives a basket and feeding kit and plans dog outings through the concierge. La Réserve out at Bellevue lets dogs into every restaurant and the bar, with a bed, bowls and a snack in the room and ten acres of park to walk. The Four Seasons takes small dogs free. Les Armures and the Bristol take dogs of any size for nothing.
We've stayed at the Geneva Marriott by the airport, and the thing that mattered was that Daisy sat with us in the bar and restaurant, which is rarer here than the fees suggest. The Ritz-Carlton charges CHF 150 a night and keeps dogs in the room. Rotary MGallery is the same story at a lower price, rooms yes, dining no. So the fee tells you less than the access column.
The city itself is simple. Leashed dogs on the Quai du Mont-Blanc and Quai Wilson promenades, in the Jardin Anglais, Parc des Bastions, Parc Mon Repos and the Perle du Lac. CGN boats take dogs on a half-fare second-class ticket, small dogs in a bag for free. Fees run from nothing to CHF 50 at most of the five-stars, with the Ritz and Fraser Suites the outliers.

Before you go
What happens when you get there
- Lake boats
- CGN boats take dogs on a second-class half-fare ticket, and they can ride in first class. Small dogs under 30 cm in a bag or basket travel free. No published lead or muzzle rule, so keep the lead on and ask the crew.
- Lakeside walks
- The Quai du Mont-Blanc and Quai Wilson promenades on the right bank, the Jardin Anglais and Quai Général-Guisan on the left, all open to leashed dogs. Parc Mon Repos and the Perle du Lac are the lawns.
- Bains des Pâquis
- The bathing pier on the right bank restricts dogs. Walk past it on the promenade rather than onto it.
- Restaurants
- La Réserve, the Marriott and Golden Tulip let dogs into the restaurant. Métropole allows small dogs in the restaurant and any dog in the bar. Four Seasons and the Woodward allow small dogs in a bag. Ritz-Carlton and Rotary MGallery keep dogs out of dining and bar. Most others don't publish a rule.
- Weight limits
- Four Seasons under 6 kg, Woodward under 7 kg, Ritz-Carlton and Marriott 10 kg, Mandarin Oriental and Residence Inn 15 kg, Métropole 30 kg. No limit at La Réserve, Beau-Rivage, Bristol, N'vY, Les Armures or Fairmont.
- Fees
- Free at Four Seasons (small dogs), Les Armures, Bristol, Fairmont and Montbrillant. CHF 15 to CHF 30 at most four-stars. CHF 50 at d'Angleterre, Beau-Rivage, La Réserve, Woodward and Mandarin Oriental. CHF 150 a night at the Ritz-Carlton. Fraser Suites charges CHF 400 per stay for a deep clean.
- Best walks
- Quai du Mont-Blanc to the Perle du Lac, the Jardin Anglais and Horloge Fleurie, Parc des Bastions under the Old Town, the Rhône banks at Jonction, and the ten-acre park at La Réserve if you're staying there.
- When to go
- April to October for the lake and the terraces. Winter is quiet and the promenades are still fine for a dog, but the boats run a reduced timetable.
