Where can my dog actually go?
Miami Beach takes dogs in the hotels and bans them from the beach, and you need to know both before you book. Of 33 hotels we researched through our booking partner, 30 take dogs. Not one can let your dog onto the sand, because the city bans dogs from the beach and the water at every public beach on the island. The only legal dog beach in Miami Beach is Bark Beach at North Shore Open Space Park around 80th Street, and Haulover's dog area is a short drive north of that. What you get instead is the paved Beachwalk running the length of the island, with pet relief stations at alternating beach entries, and Flamingo Park's dog park inland.
The hotels make up for it. The Fontainebleau has its own fenced dog park in the corner of the grounds. The Hyatt Centric has the WOOFTOP, a rooftop dog park with a bar serving a Mutt Mojito. The Betsy on Ocean Drive is run by a family whose golden retrievers are the Canine Executive Officers, seats dogs at its outdoor bar and restaurant, offers canine massage in the spa and waives the fee if you book direct. The Andaz and the Standard Spa let dogs onto the pool deck. Kimpton Surfcomber, the Standard Spa, 1 Hotel and the Setai take dogs free, and Surfcomber, Loews, Nautilus and the Standard have no size limit.
Loews runs its Loews Loves Pets programme with a gourmet dog menu for USD 50. Nobu and Eden Roc send a BarkBox to the room and book an in-room sitter by the hour. The Ritz-Carlton South Beach has a dog room-service menu. Most of the rest, including the EDITION, Faena, Setai, Plymouth and National, cap the dog at 20 to 25 lb. May to October is hot, humid and stormy, so plan dawn and dusk walks on the Beachwalk.

Before you go
What happens when you get there
- No dogs on the sand
- Miami Beach bans dogs from the sand and the water at every public beach on the island, and no hotel can override it. The city's only dog beach is Bark Beach at North Shore Open Space Park around 80th to 81st Street. Haulover Beach's dog area is a short drive north, and Hobie Beach on the Rickenbacker Causeway is the nearest from the Standard Spa on Belle Isle.
- Where the dog can go
- The paved Beachwalk runs from South Pointe to 46th Street and beyond, with pet relief stations at alternating beach entries. Lummus Park along Ocean Drive, Collins Park, and South Pointe Park's paths all take leashed dogs. Flamingo Park has a fenced dog park a few blocks inland from South Beach.
- Dog parks on site
- The Fontainebleau has a fenced dog park in the northeast corner of the grounds. The Hyatt Centric has the rooftop WOOFTOP. Andaz has a fenced grassy relief area across the street. Faena has a sandy relief area, and the Ritz-Carlton, Eden Roc, Setai, Carillon and Dream have grassy relief areas on the property.
- Pools and patios
- Andaz and the Standard Spa welcome dogs on the pool deck, not in the water. The Betsy seats dogs at its outdoor bar and restaurant, the Cadillac on its patio, the Standard Spa at the Lido bayside restaurant, and the Hyatt Centric at the WOOFTOP bar. Everywhere else keeps dogs out of dining and the pool.
- Weight limits
- No limit at Kimpton Surfcomber, Loews, Nautilus, the Standard Spa and the Betsy. 75 lb at the Goodtime and Cadillac. 50 lb at Fontainebleau, Andaz, W South Beach, Grand Beach, Hilton Bentley and 1 Hotel (combined). 45 lb at Shelborne. 35 lb at Ritz-Carlton and Carillon. 30 lb at Marriott Stanton and Dream. 25 lb at the EDITION, Faena, Casa Faena, Nobu, Lennox, Plymouth and National. 20 lb at Setai, Eden Roc, Mondrian, Moxy and Hyatt Centric.
- Leaving the dog
- Kimpton Surfcomber, Fontainebleau, W South Beach, Ritz-Carlton, the Standard Spa, the Betsy, Marriott Stanton and Eden Roc allow a well-behaved dog alone in the room. Faena, Dream and Hilton Bentley allow it crated. Loews, Andaz, 1 Hotel, Setai, Carillon, Nobu, Mondrian and Grand Beach don't. Nobu and Eden Roc book an in-room sitter by the hour.
- Best walks
- The Beachwalk from South Pointe Park to the Fontainebleau at dawn, Lummus Park along Ocean Drive, the Venetian Causeway from Belle Isle, Collins Park to the Botanical Garden, and Bark Beach at North Shore Open Space Park for the one stretch of sand your dog is allowed on.
- When to go
- November to April. Summer is humid, stormy and hot underfoot on the Beachwalk, and the pool decks that take dogs are the only refuge.

Esmé, the Palms and Soho Beach House refuse.
Can dogs go on the beach in Miami Beach?+
No. The city bans dogs from the sand and the water at every public beach, and no hotel can allow it. The only dog beach in Miami Beach is Bark Beach at North Shore Open Space Park around 80th Street. Haulover Beach's dog area is a short drive north of that.
What is the best pet-friendly hotel in Miami Beach?+
The Betsy for the welcome, run by dog people with dogs at the outdoor bar and restaurant and canine massage in the spa. Kimpton Surfcomber for the policy, no fee and no size limit on the beachfront. Hyatt Centric for the WOOFTOP rooftop dog park. Fontainebleau if you want a full resort with its own fenced dog park.
Which Miami Beach hotels have a dog park?+
The Fontainebleau has a fenced dog park on the grounds, and the Hyatt Centric has the WOOFTOP rooftop dog park with a bar. Andaz has a fenced grassy area across the street. Flamingo Park's public dog park is a short walk inland from most South Beach hotels.
Which Miami Beach hotels take large dogs?+
Kimpton Surfcomber, Loews, Nautilus Sonesta, the Standard Spa and the Betsy have no weight limit, though the Betsy asks for advance clearance over 40 lb. The Goodtime and Cadillac take dogs to 75 lb, Fontainebleau, Andaz, W South Beach, Grand Beach and Hilton Bentley to 50 lb.
Which Miami Beach hotels have no pet fee?+
Kimpton Surfcomber, the Standard Spa, 1 Hotel South Beach and the Setai. The Betsy waives its USD 150 fee when you book direct. Loews charges USD 50, Dream and Moxy USD 50, Nautilus USD 75.
Can dogs sit by the pool at Miami Beach hotels?+
At two of them. Andaz Miami Beach welcomes dogs on the pool deck and at the pool bar, not on the front row of sunbeds or in the water. The Standard Spa welcomes dogs at its bayside pool and Lido restaurant. Every other hotel keeps dogs off the pool deck.
Which Miami Beach hotels let dogs eat at the restaurant?+
The Betsy seats dogs at its outdoor bar and restaurant. The Cadillac publishes dogs on its patio. The Standard Spa welcomes dogs at the Lido. The Hyatt Centric's WOOFTOP has its own bar. Florida requires a doggie-dining permit, so no other hotel on the island publishes patio access.
Is the Fontainebleau Miami Beach dog friendly?+
Yes. Two pets to 50 lb for a USD 100 one-time fee, a fenced dog park with waste bags in the northeast corner of the grounds, a vacation dog tag, in-room pet movies, and the dog can stay in the room with a Do Not Disturb sign. Not on the beach.
Does Kimpton Surfcomber charge a pet fee?+
No. Kimpton's brand policy applies: no fee, no deposit, no weight, size or breed limit, and a well-behaved dog can stay alone in the room. Beds and bowls from the front desk and a Pet Stop station by reception. Dogs stay out of the pool area.
Where can I walk my dog in South Beach?+
The paved Beachwalk behind the hotels, with relief stations at alternating beach entries, Lummus Park along Ocean Drive, South Pointe Park's paths, Collins Park, and the fenced dog park at Flamingo Park a few blocks inland. Not the sand.
