Domes Zeen Chania, a Luxury Collection Resort, Crete

Understated luxury where the dog is part of it. The pool area, the beach and every outdoor meal, together.

Daisy's Verdict
Would Daisy stay again? Yes, without hesitation.
Of the three Domes resorts we have now stayed at, my ranking is Domes Noruz first, Domes Zeen second and Domes Aulus Elounda third, but they are close for different reasons, and Zeen beats Noruz on food. That seafood restaurant is worth going back for on its own. The so-so lunch, the puzzle of a front door and the forty minute late checkout are the only marks against it, and none of them would stop me returning in a heartbeat, next time for three nights. 10 out of 10, and yes, Domes Zeen is officially Daisy Approved.

Overall recommendation

Go for three nights rather than one, book the seafood restaurant through concierge as early as you can, and skip July. September, when the water is still warm, is the pick, or June before the peak madness kicks in.

Best suited for

Dog moms who want a proper luxury resort experience without leaving their dog behind at any point of the day, and solo travelers with dogs, because the pool setup means you can actually swim while your dog lounges nearby. Couples who want calm, understated luxury rather than a scene. Skip it if you want Chania nightlife on your doorstep, are on a budget, or want an all inclusive buffet holiday.

One thing to know before booking

The Domes pet kit here has everything except a leash, so pack your own. And the pet fee is EUR 100 per stay with a waiver at check-in, so have vaccination records handy.

Favourite moment

Daisy's dinner at the seafood restaurant: a chicken breast sent over from the other restaurant, plated like a proper main with two sauces on the side and a kids plate to serve her on. Full five star treatment for a Shih Tzu in a stroller.

The hotel

Thailand meets the Bahamas, in Crete. And Daisy was the star of the show.

Domes Zeen Chania is a beachfront Marriott Luxury Collection resort at Kato Daratso, twenty minutes from Chania old town. Palm trees everywhere, wooden panels on the bungalows, every room feeling like its own little villa, and a really long heated pool with green undertones and loungers on gravel that make the whole place feel airlifted in from the Bahamas or Thailand.

What makes it special for dog moms is simple: every restaurant is outdoors and the whole resort lives outside, so there was nowhere Daisy could not come. She was presented with a squeaky toy and her own bandana at reception, found a plush dog bed and bowls in the bungalow, lounged in the shade through pool days, ran the quiet beach in the morning, and was served a chicken breast like a proper main at a five star seafood dinner. Staff and even other guests were calling her by name within hours.

What we noticed
Arrival

Two members of staff were waiting outside before the car was even parked. Bags taken, passports handled while we sat with a welcome drink (all natural ginger for Pam, a cup of water for Daisy), and Daisy was presented with a Domes squeaky toy and her own bandana at reception. Nikos appointed himself Daisy's number one fan for the entire stay. A golf cart brought us down to the bungalow because the afternoon ground was too hot for paws.

The room

Garden Bungalow, big and properly spacious with floor to ceiling glass on two sides, and welcome-back balloons laid out on the bed. Daisy's kit was one of the best anywhere: luxurious plush dog bed, water bowls, bandana, squeaky toy and poo bags. No leash provided, so pack your own. Welcome note, red wine, raki and Turkish delights for the humans.

Worth knowing

The patio-style door is hard to work out and locks via a key slot in the wall, which sparks does-the-AC-stay-on worries when leaving the dog napping inside; there is also no do-not-disturb hanger to warn housekeeping a dog is in the room. The smart control panel is easy to switch the air conditioning off by accident. Afternoon asphalt gets seriously hot, so time walks or call the golf cart.

Walkability

The resort is perfectly walkable with plenty of green space for sniffing, golf carts on call for the hill, and the beach a short walk down from the pool, calm and never crowded, perfect for an early morning run. Daisy was welcome throughout the pool area, always in shade on a lounger, which means a solo traveler can actually swim while the dog lounges nearby.

Daisy's Note

Some hotels tolerate dogs. This one celebrated her.

Officially dogs stay out of the indoor venues, the spa and the pool water. In practice every restaurant is outdoors and the resort lives outside, so Daisy joined every meal, the pool loungers and the beach.
